Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

CONTENT:
(1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.
I was thinking maybe I could take an EMT class for my independent component. If not just add 30 extra hours to the mentorship hours.

(2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.
Well the class at Vt. Baldy view ROP is a semester long.

(3) How does your independent study component relate to your working EQ?
I want to see what Firefighter Paramedics go through and how their line of work is.

b.f

  • iPoly Citizen: Well, I'm not really sure how this topic is suppose to help me in being a better iPoly citizen.
  • Effective Communicator:  As a Fire Explorer (where I'm doing my service learning hours), you have to listen to the fire fighters and follow orders correctly and beable to communicate to other Explorers during activities and drills.
  • Effective Learner:  I just hope to learn new skills that I can apply to many situations and can use  in the future.

Blog 1: Summer Mentorship Component

Assignment:

Literal: (Know)

Dates: Aug. 20 - Sept. 1

Total Hours: 12

Since I shouldn't really give tattoos to anyone all I did was observe my mentor give tattoos to others. He'd just tips like making sure the person is handling the pain correctly and how to set up the tattoo gun things like that. For the most part he did simple tattoos while I was there.

Literal: (Need to Know)

What questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience?  List them.
  • How do tattoo artist cover up tattoos?
  • How is the ink non-toxic? What is it made of?

   Interpretive
What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?

I would have to say attention to detail and patience. Attention to detail because you want the person to get exactly what they want so they're satisfied with their tattoo. Patience because you have to take you time, tattoos are permanent and expensive/painful to remove, and you do not want to mess up.

How did what you did help you choose a topic?  Please explain.
I liked going to see people getting tattoos, learning about them, and the art but, I don't think I will be doing this for my senior project. I've decided to do public services specifically fire fighters due to the fact that I am interested in it, no special reason.
